There are many variations when it comes to rum and cane spirit – and we are intent on appreciating each one in the right context. Our categories are designed to give your submission a chance to be professionally evaluated alongside its peer spirits, so, be sure to select the right category for your product.
Spirit made from molasses juice that has not been aged in a barrel for a minimum of 2 years.
Spirits made with freshly pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses.
Spirit made from freshly pressed sugarcane juice, aged a minimum of two years in wooden casks.
White Rum must be matured in wooden casks for a minimum two (2) years, but be clear in colour and exhibit characteristics generally understood to meet the definition of “white rum”.
Spirit aged in a wooden cask must be matured for at least 2 years old and a maximum of 4 years old.
Spirit aged in a wooden cask must be matured for at least 5 years old and a maximum of 11 years old.
Spirit aged in a wooden cask must be matured for at least 12 years old and over.
Must have an ABV of 50% or more, must exhibit a colour and flavour clearly associated with maturation in wooden casks for at least 2 years.
Refers to batch distillation only.
Can include single column, twin or multi column systems and refers to a continuous distillation set up.

Rum or cane spirit that has an inclusion of spices, herbs, fruits and/or nuts. May include sweeteners and alternative flavourings as long as the product is marketed and would be recognised by the consumer as a spiced rum product.
Full flavoured rums that can either be with a single predominant ingredient or non-traditional mix of ingredients.
Must be produced using rum or cane spirit as a base spirit, have a minimum ABV of 15% with a minimum content of sweetening products, expressed as invert sugar, of not less than 100g/l (grams per litre)
Spirits flavoured with non-traditional herbs, spices and, occasionally, edible flowers.
Spirits that are matured and bottled after being purchased from a distillery.
Spirits that push the boundaries of the rum sphere, taking distillation, flavour and production to a new level. This category recognises rums that stand out for their creativity and uniqueness. Entrants must demonstrate how their product breaks new ground or offers a novel approach to rum-making, emphasising what sets it apart from other entries.
To be considered, entrants must submit a written statement of 100 words or more explaining how their product represents an innovative contribution to the world of rum. Judges will be looking for innovation in ingredients, production methods, aging, packaging, and other aspects that make the rum exceptional.
