Alexander “Zan” Kong
Commercial Manager – Spirits, Worthy Park Estate
Born and raised just outside of Toronto, Canada to Chinese-Jamaican parents and part of a large family, Zan started going to Jamaica by the time he was 8-months old. Visiting usually twice a year he grew up immersed in the Jamaican culture and with such a big family, he grew accustomed to spending majority of this holidays visiting the island.
As he grew older this transitioned to being introduced to not only the social aspect of life in Jamaica but developing a love for Jamaican rum (when he was of legal age of course!).
Graduating from the Hospitality and Tourism Management program at the University of Guelph (Ontario, Canada); he made the decision to ditch Canada to work in the hotel industry in his second home of Jamaica. Working in the hospitality industry across Jamaica, Turks and Caicos and Florida before coming back to Jamaica. This eventually led to a chance encounter with Gordon Clarke, the Co-Managing Director of Worthy Park Estate. With Worthy Park having established their Rum-Bar brand in the local market they were ready to start to establish their export market presence. He didn’t have to ask twice.
In his current capacity as Commercial Manager – Spirits, he is responsible not only for opening up new export distribution channels but also working with existing distributors locally and globally to promote all of the Worthy Park brands of rum. Never one to take himself too seriously, there’s nothing he loves more than sharing a laugh and talking about Jamaica with a sip of rum in his hand. Well, maybe if it is a Daiquiri or Mai Tai.
Continually introducing Worthy Park to new markets across the globe, Zan is excited to keep growing the brand and spreading his love of Jamaica to the world.
