Martin Lange
Owner/Operator – Cobbler, Death & Taxes, Dr. Gimlette
Argentinean born Martin Lange started in the industry in 2002 in Europe before immigrating to Australia in 2004. In 2006 he started Sling Lounge with Blake Ward and Dustin Davis, one of the first Cocktail Bars in West End, Brisbane.
After 6 successful years, he sold his shares of Sling to start the first whisky/ey bar in 2013 in Queensland, Cobbler, which got Best Small bar of Australia in 2015 and countless nominations.
From then on, he went on to open Savile Row in 2016 and Finney Isles 2018, which he both sold in 2019 to open Death and Taxes with his wife, Wiebke Herrmann, Blake Ward and Belinda Ward.
Death and Taxes won best Whisky Bar in Australia in 2019 and 2021 and best Cocktail Bar in 2019. Following the success of Death and Taxes, the team opened Dr Gimlette in 2021.
Martin also received the Australian Outstanding Hospitality Contribution Award in 2022 by Australian Bartender Magazine, being the first Queenslander to ever receive the award.
With more than 20 years of hospitality experience both nationally and internationally, countless awards and many successful businesses under his belt, Martin Lange shows an ongoing passion and hard work that is great to see.
